Why Iowa Landlords Choose LevelLandlord
Iowa Landlord Law at a Glance
Under Iowa's Uniform Residential Landlord and Tenant Law, security deposits are limited to two months' rent. Landlords must return the deposit within 30 days after the tenant vacates and provides a forwarding address, along with a written itemized statement of any deductions.
For nonpayment of rent, Iowa requires a 3-day written notice to pay or vacate before filing an eviction. For other lease violations, a 7-day notice to remedy or quit is required. Repeat violations within 6 months may allow a 7-day unconditional notice to quit.
Iowa landlords must maintain rental premises in compliance with applicable housing codes. They must give at least 24 hours' notice before entering the rental unit for non-emergency inspections or repairs.
