We're not a tech company that discovered real estate. We're landlords who got burned — and built the tool we wish we'd had.
We were working landlords — full-time jobs, a ministry, and a handful of rental properties we were managing ourselves. We downloaded what looked like an official lease from the state website, used it for years, and thought we were doing everything right.
We weren't. That lease had a provision that was the subject of dozens of active lawsuits. We got sued. Multiple times. We won every case — and spent tens of thousands of dollars winning.
What we didn't expect was what God did in the middle of it. He gave us joy and peace through every battle. Not because it didn't cost us — it did — but because He was teaching us. Out of that season came the lessons, the systems, and ultimately LevelLandlord.
The lawsuits were hard. The legal fees were real. But what struck us looking back was this: God didn't remove us from the situation — He walked us through it with a peace that didn't make sense on paper. Shanriell and I would talk about it regularly. We weren't consumed by it the way you'd expect.
In that space, we learned. We learned how to read a lease. How to track changes in landlord-tenant law. How to manage our properties like a real business. Those lessons became guides. The guides became a platform. LevelLandlord was built in that fire — in Minnesota, for working landlords everywhere who deserve the same foundation we had to build the hard way.
The trials were not the end of the story. They were the curriculum. If you're in a hard season right now — a bad tenant, a legal dispute, a costly repair — we've been there. You can come out of it with wisdom, not just wounds. That's what this platform is for.
"The joy of the Lord is your strength." — Nehemiah 8:10
We invest so we can give. We build tools so other landlords can do the same — without the mistakes we made.
